The Holy Spirit by Sinclair Ferguson, Part of the IVP Contours of Christian Theology Series, Edited by Gerald Bray

Strengths: Ferguson is a uniquely clear and helpful writer. He is particularly good when discussing union with Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of the New Covenant believer, as well as when giving instruction on the gifts of the Spirit. In fact, Ferguson is spectacular and decisive in his teaching on the continuationist-cessationist debate.

Weaknesses: As a classical covenant theologian, Ferguson understands there to be a higher degree of continuity between the work of the Spirit in the Old Covenant and New Covenant than can be textually established. In so doing, he flattens the distinctions between the Old and New Covenant.

Recommended? Yes.

Audience? Thoughtful high school students and older.
